Gabions ready for rock, long gabions come with diaphragms
Max spacing of bracewires 350mm in both directions
Temporary wires at the top of the gabion, will make it easier to install the lid
For 3mm mesh, add temporary supports before filing gabions
How to fill the gabions
The "best rocks" are hand placed on the face of the gabion
Under or over sized rocks placed in the middle of the wall
Additional rows of gabion baskets added to wall
Gabion walls over 2:1 stability ratio will require support posts
Check out the info on wall stability. Support posts are not recommended for retaining walls, unless engineer designed.
The structural integrity of the gabion relies on the gabions being tightly packed with hard, heavy, durable fill. Loosely packed or light weight fill compromises the gabions ability to resist the loads placed on them.
